Developing a Good and Positive Human Relation in Local NGO (LCO)

A.    Background
Many ways to make a good relationship among public service with people. Even like government institution, company, research center, NGO, and comunity have their own way to make the good service for the people. Although sometimes there’re some internal or external constraints and conflicts, but they have their own way to overcome the problems. So, for this example, we choose a local NGO to identify any conflicts in the workplace and how to overcome the conflicts. That NGO is named Lost Children Operation (LCO).
Lost Children Operation (LCO) located in Peukan Bada sub-district. LCO is a local NGO that focus on children protection and education, this NGO gets response from the public, although still requiring development. This institution built as a legitimate local NGO on May 25th, 2005 that led by Tgk. H. Abdullah Madyah. This institution was born after earthquake and tsunami disaster in 2004. In principle is to looking for the children who survived from disaster by visiting places of potential. According to the concept, this institution get special attention from the public. At first, this institution is under the coordination and funded by DPD-RI and then taken over by the funding and support of charitable institutions from Japan, namely People’s Association on-Conscience (PAC) in Kyoto, Japan.

Running Programs:
  • To collecting and to following up in database that legitimated by Social Department of Aceh Province.
  • Providing scholarship.
  • Teaching the foreign language (English, Japanese) to the children freely.

That is significance to talk because LCO have been 9 years be a benefit NGO for the people in Peukan Bada. This institution has been established and has a lot of great achievements and has given the big influences to the people. however, during its achievements, it does not mean the institution does not have any problems, many constraints and conflicts that occurredEven though internal or external conflicts. So, let’s talk about that.

B.     Contents
Many people very thanks-full to LCO because of its helps and big influences to other people. And this is the only NGO that still exist until now. LCO make relationship with not promises, but they always provide concrete and rational evidences. like always conduct socialization activities, introducing the intent and purpose of this institution to the wider community, providing workshop to the community, giving rise to a sense of comfort and confidence in the middle of society. In addition, LCO give the motivation and innovation to children that have potential and good at English and Japanese to develop their abilities. So that, they will get the chance to be the participant of Friendship Visiting to Japan every years.
Despite LCO have contributed and dedicated many programs to the people, each NGO or institution certainly find any conflicts or problems like LCO also like that. So, what kind of problems relating to LCO’s issues? There’re the external conflict that come from the village society. When the early days of the formation of LCO where some people believe that NGO is illegal because of there’s no allowed by headman (keuchik). But LCO have reported to the keuchik before. That happen because of there’re no open-minded between people with LCO. Other conflicts is where some people feel unconfortable with LCO because it’s very crowded and noisy when some guests from abroad come and then make some events around that places. And how to resolving that problems? LCO make some conference with the important people in that place. They talking about how the best way to avoid the problem. LCO make the promises to don’t make inconvenience anymore, and in that time, they are forgive each others.
In internal conflicts, that happen because of miss-communication and miss-understanding among leader and employees. When the employees say “Yes” about their works, but the leader say “No”, And also delay in reporting any activities in workplace, there’s some responsibilities about what they've done, seniors tend to be more powerful  compared to juniors, the employees also like to be lazy and so many tasks undone, they are also have constraints in language, for example if there’s a foreign person come to LCO, they are difficult to make some conversation with them so it’s difficult to share information directly.
What is the best practice to overcome the conflict, such as evaluating in every week, make a meeting and tell about the problem and how to overcome, search for best resolution together, open-minded each other, always check the seriousness of the employees, give the punishments to employees who not serious and give reward to employees who always serious. And those are the way how to developing a good and positive human relation in workplace
